Pasquetta …. Easter Monday Montefeltro traditions…. “handed” down from generation to generation ….

PUNT E CUL is a traditional game played in the town square ,by young and old alike, the morning of Pasquetta (monday after easter) Here, the true protagonist is the egg. The rules are extremely simple and come from an ancient time when the egg was a valuable exchange item. The game begins by placing all of the eggs on the pavement, so that they create as S shape. The eggs are hard boiled, of course, uove sode in Italian. Each contestant chooses an egg and holds it firmly in a clenched fist, with just the tip of the egg (the pointy end) showing. Then, the first to play chooses an opponent and the pair taps their egg’s pointy ends together (the kids tend to bash with quite a bit more vigor than the older folks). Whoever comes away with the unbroken egg gets sole possession of his opponent’s broken egg, then he challenges another player for a bash. The player who has accumulated the most smashed eggs wins. After the competition the is a HUGE breakfast of traditional country delicacies…..PUNT E CUL (point and butt) …a yearly appointment not to be missed !!!!
